CEO, Allies for Better Childhoods

Welcome to the Allies for Better Childhoods website.. The virtual home of a movement dedicated to transforming the lives of the most vulnerable among us: the abused children of West Africa. My name is Valerie Cole, and I share my journey with you today with both a heavy heart and a firm spirit.

As a child growing up in West Africa, I was once an innocent victim of abuse. The scars of my early years—both seen and unseen—have profoundly shaped my life’s mission. I experienced the heart-wrenching pain of complex childhood trauma (CCT). I lived in environments where fear overshadowed love, where cries for help were muffled by stigma, and where communities disregarded the suffering of their most innocent members. Each day was a battle for survival, marked by the wounds left by those who were supposed to protect and nurture me.

But I chose resilience. I decided to rise above the darkness that threatened to consume me. Through the grace of my Almighty Papa God and the inner strength that struggled to survive in me, I began to heal, to believe in a brighter future, and to recognize the power of a compassionate heart. These experiences compelled me to dedicate my life to ensuring that no child, regardless of their circumstances, should ever experience the horrors I endured.

Allies for Better Childhoods was born from this resolve. We stand firm in our commitment to combat the abuse of children across West Africa and create an environment where they can thrive—free from fear and filled with hope. Our mission encompasses various facets of support designed to meet these vulnerable children’s academic, vocational, health, and resettlement needs.

Education is a powerful tool for change. We provide access to quality education, which is paramount in breaking the cycle of abuse. We equip children with the skills and knowledge they need to heal and shape their futures. Additionally, we offer vocational training programs that empower them to become self-sufficient, helping them discover talents and pursue careers that will allow them to thrive as adults.

Health is another cornerstone of our initiative. Many abused children suffer from long-term physical and psychological consequences. We propose to incorporate the whole health of the children, including mental health support and counseling, emphasizing the importance of holistic well-being. Recovery is not merely the absence of suffering; it is the presence of joy, confidence, and a belief in oneself. We strive to put that smile back on their faces.

Resettlement is also crucial. We propose supporting orphaned and displaced children by creating shelters and safe communities that nurture their growth and development. Every child deserves a haven, and we are committed to building those sanctuaries where healing and growth can occur.

Importantly, we believe in the power of education and awareness to prevent abuse before it occurs. Part of our mission is to engage and educate communities about the dangers of abuse—encouraging open dialogues, promoting empathy, and fostering an environment where children feel safe to speak out. By changing perceptions and raising awareness, we can illuminate the issues that plague so many.

Together, we can create a future where children are protected, heard, and cherished. It is a daunting challenge, but we hold an untiring belief that with your support, we can make a difference. Please join me on this vital journey. Together, let us be the allies that these children desperately need. Let us ensure that no child will ever again face the trials I endured.

Thank you for your commitment, compassion, and belief in a better tomorrow.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Valerie Cole
